Boston's Next Councilor

Biography

Marty Hogan was born and raised in a middle class family in South Boston by Christine and the late Martin Sr., a banker and a former Boston Public School teacher, respectively. He currently lives with his wife Christine in Dorchester. He attended Gate of Heaven Elementary in Southie, Catholic Memorial High in West Roxbury, Suffolk University and Boston University.  He has worked for many non profits and big businesses throughout the city including ABCD, the Laboure Center, Marion Manor, the South Boston Action Center, and most recently State Street Corporation. He is currently active in his Dorchester community as part of the Pope’s Hill Neighborhood Association, Florida Corridor Association, Ashmont Adams Association and he has been a key player in a new Neighborhood Crime Watch program in his neighborhood that he would like to see expand throughout the city.

Marty has strong beliefs in family values and the benefits of a proper education.  He believes that lack of education is the cause of the current state of the city of Boston.  Children are the future of Boston and by raising the standards in the Boston Public Schools we can better prepare for the future.  Schools are supposed to be a safe place for children, not a place that they need to be sheltered from.  Education however, does not stop at the 12th grade. It continues into the job force.  We need to teach children early, the value of hard work and provide job opportunities for them to keep them off the street.  We need more education opportunities for adults in our city as well. Better education provides better job opportunities and ways to advance.  One way Marty sees violence can be prevented is more family interaction in education. We need classes for families to learn to deal with their struggles. We need better services single parents to be able to attend meetings at school about their children. We need parents and guardians who encourage and support their children striving to achieve. Marty believes in more programs to prevent drug and alcohol abuse. Marty envisions call boxes in the parks to reach emergency services to help the people of Boston feel safe right where they live.  People don’t feel safe here anymore and don’t feel they can continue to survive in unsafe neighborhoods that are out of the price range of working class families. We are in the middle of a vicious cycle and it’s time for it to stop. Marty Hogan is part of the solution to changing our city.
